Re-Wilding

Jacqueline Sheridan

I want to trade comfort for shelter

If it means that embers and stars

Are the nightly companions

That send me into dreaming

I want my body to viscerally know

The contours and scents and rhythms

Of our Wild Mother's body

With the intimacy of any true love

I want to take the blindfolds off my feet

Help my heart taste the sweetness

Of all the sentient hands reaching out

And let Beauty mother me

I want to lose all the clocks

That aren't dialled by the sun

Sway my hips with the cycle of the moon

And honour the cauldron of kairos

Let the true wonder of my Belonging

Be the symphony that ignites me

The lullaby that soothes me

And the light of encouragement to my rose.

The last line here is a reference to Hafiz's beautiful poem The Rose...

How did the rose

Ever open its heart

And give to this world

All of its beauty?

It felt the warm encouragement of light

Against its being

Otherwise we all remain

Too frightened
