Light and Dark
Poise the scales
in temporary balance
For three turns of the earth
Each trip around the sun
Their gifts are
Equally weighted
A kind of truce
A breath of harmony
Before we tip
Towards the Light
The winter Dark
Relinquishing its claim
On mind, body and soul
As the Spring rays
gather their strength
So germinating seeds
Perhaps secretly sown
Can begin to send
Their broken-open body
towards the wide-open sky
The blind hope of
Becoming
Now endorsed
By that which is seen
The faith in the dark
Asked everything of you
Refused to reassure
midway
Yet finally rewards
With bursts of green
That restore the heart
And you breathe
A sigh of relief
and wonder
That you ever doubted
Its blessed
arrival
at all
